All 12 Irish MEPs now elected:
East constituency
Sitting MEP Mairead McGuinness (FG) was reelected on Sunday following the first count in the East constituency. She will be joined by sitting MEP Liam Aylward (FF) and by new Labour MEP, Nessa Childers. Nessa Childers was elected to the seat which will be vacated by retiring MEP Avril Doyle (FG).
Dublin constituency
Sitting MEPs Gay Mitchell (FG) and Proinsias De Rossa (Labour) were relected early on Monday morning following the 4th and 6th counts respectively. Joe Higgins (SP) was elected to the third and final seat at 5am on Monday morning, following the 7th count.
In this constituency, sitting MEPs Eoin Ryan (FF) and Mary Lou McDonald (SF) lost their seats.
South constituency
Sitting MEP Brian Crowley (FF) was reelected on Monday morning following the fourth count. He will be joined in the European Parliament by Sean Kelly (FG) and Alan Kelly (Labour).
In this constituency, sitting MEPs Colm Burke (FG) and Kathy Sinnott (Ind.) lost their seats.
North West constituency
Sitting MEPs Marian Harkin (Ind.) and Jim Higgins (FG) were reelected to the European Parliament. They will be joined by former MEP Pat 'The Cope' Gallagher (FF). Pat 'The Cope' Gallagher was elected to the seat which will be vacated by retiring MEP Seán Ó Neachtain (FF).
European Elections 2009
Between 4-7 June, registered voters in the EU's 27 Member States will use their votes to elect 736 members of the European Parliament or MEPs.
The European Parliament is the only multinational parliament of its size in the world and its MEPs have been directly elected every five years since 1979. Of the 495 million EU citizens, approximately 375 million will be invited to decide who will represent them for the new five year term between 2009 and 2014.
